Hathoot Leads Lobos with Two Hits, Chavez Homers in Season Finale

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— With the Lobos having already secured the series on Friday, the 2024 season came to a close on Saturday with Fresno State taking the final game 13-4.

In her final game as a Lobo, Rachael Hathoot led the Lobos with two hits, while Keyannah Chavez hit her eighth home run of the season to lead the Lobos with two RBI.

UNM finished with six hits in the game, including a pinch-hit hit by senior Savannah Braun, and scored two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.

Fresno State took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, which extended to 5-0 in the fourth before the Lobos cut into the lead on a two-run home run by Chavez, UNM’s first hit of the game, after DeNae Vasquez-Dickson reached on a hit-by-pitch in the previous at-bat.

The Bulldogs added two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to push the margin to 11-2, with UNM extending the game in the bottom of the sixth with two runs on three hits.

Hathoot started off the sixth with a single to center and Vasquez-Dickson followed with a single up the middle as Hathoot raced around to third on the play. Hathoot scored as Vasquez-Dickson was thrown out attempting to steal for the first run of the inning and after Chavez and Ashley Archuleta reached base on hit-by-pitches, Chloe Yeatts drove in Chavez on a hit to the gap in left center.

FS scored two final runs in the seventh with Hathoot reaching in her final at-bat as a Lobo on a single up the middle before a foul out ended the game.

UNM used four pitchers in the contest with Amber Linton making her final start and went 3.0 innings before Brooke Umali entered in relief and threw 1.0 inning. Taylor Snow threw 1.1 innings in her final appearance as a Lobo with McKenna Guest going the final 1.2 innings and recorded the only strikeout of the game for the Lobos.

The Lobos finished the 2024 campaign with a 16-38 record and 8-14 in conference play.
