New Mexico-UNLV Game Notes
The two hottest teams in the Mountain West meet Wednesday at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. New Mexico (21-3, 7-2 MWC), winners of seven straight, visits a UNLV (19-4, 7-2 MWC) team that has won five in a row. UNM's last loss? 74-62 to the Runnin' Rebels in The Pit on Jan. 9. Tip-off Wednesday is 9:05 p.m. Mountain Time. The Lobos are 15th in the A.P. poll and moved up to No. 19 in the ESPN/USA Today list. UNLV is back in the rankings, checking in at No. 23 by A.P. and 25th in the coaches' poll. This is just the second time both teams have been ranked going into the game. On Jan. 17, 1978, the 20th-ranked Lobos got past No. 16 UNLV 89-76 in The Pit.

STEVENS: Lobos Shock Aztecs 65-58 at San Diego State
The New Mexico women's basketball team will try to keep its three-game winning streak alive Wednesday against UNLV. The Lobos will host the Rebels in The Pit starting at 7 p.m. MT. New Mexico enters Wednesday's game with a 14-7 overall mark and is tied for second in the league standings at 6-3. UNLV is 10-13 on the year and 3-6 in league play. The game will be broadcast live on 610 AM The Sports Animal. GameTracker and live video streaming will be available on GoLobos.com.

Lobo TV: Postgame Press Conference
It was a nail-biter, a cliffhanger, a Pit classic, a battle of Mountain West heavyweights as Lobos and Aztecs played dead even for 44 minutes and 57 seconds. However, the final three seconds of overtime went to the Lobos as junior Darington Hobson tossed in two free throws to give New Mexico an 88-86 overtime win Saturday in The Pit over the San Diego State Aztecs. The Lobos, who were once in the MWC cellar at 0-2, are now tied for the league lead with Brigham Young and UNLV at 7-2. The Lobos visit the UNLV Rebs on Wednesday.

Jade Enterprises/UNM Ski Invitational - Final Results
The University of New Mexico ski team won the 2010 Jade Enterprises/UNM Invitational today with 961 points. Anne Cecilie Brusletto, Martin Kaas and Petter Brenna won three of the four events on Day 2, while seven more Lobos put up top-10 finishes. UNM out-paced the field by 160 points, ahead of second-place Colorado with 801.

University of New Mexico freshman Richard York capped a sensational weekend with a school record score of 5,294 in his collegiate heptathlon debut. York led all collegians with a second place finish, trailing only former Arizona standout and two-time NCAA decathlon champion Jake Arnold (5,743). York missed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the seven-event competition by less than 100 points.

Former University of New Mexico All-American Brian Urlacher was recently named to the 2000s NFL All-Decade Team. The Chicago Bears star was one of 53 selected to the team, which is chosen by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee every 10 years. Urlacher was joined by Derrick Brooks, Ray Lewis, Joey Porter, Zach Thomas and DeMarcus Ware at the linebacker position. more |
