FRESNO, Calif. -- The University of New Mexico softball team dropped the opening game of its weekend Mountain West series at Fresno State, 3-0, on Friday night.

The Lobos fall to 21-30 overall and 3-10 in MW play while the Bulldogs improve to 28-22 and 9-7 in league contests.

New Mexico and Fresno State meet again on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT at Dog Diamond.

Senior Kaity Ingram kept her hitting streak alive and recorded the Lobos' only hit of the night with a single in the third inning. Ingram's seven-game streak dates back to April 14 in UNM's third game at UNLV.

Ingram went 1-for-3 on Friday night.

Senior Kaela DeBroeck pitched a complete game and takes the loss, dropping to 7-10 on the season. The right-handed hurler allowed 11 hits and three runs while walking none and striking out two.

Fresno State freshman Jill Compton earned the shutout and improves to 14-13. She gave up just one hit while walking three and striking out 10 in six innings pitched.

Fresno State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first using two singles, a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt to score the run. The Bulldogs struck again in the fifth, using four hits and two errors by the Lobos to put up two runs and move the mark to 3-0.

The Lobos left five runners stranded -- two in the top of the first frame, one in the second, another in the third and the final in the seventh.

New Mexico's first hit of the contest came with one out away in the third inning when Ingram hit a single to center field. However, she was out on the next play as the 'Dogs first baseman scooped up a grounder by freshman Mariah Rimmer and threw the Lobo lead runner out at second. The Lobo at-bat ended with a line out to the pitcher by senior Cassandra Kalapsa.

The next and final Lobo to reach base was Karissa Haleman. The redshirt freshman drew a two-out walk in the top of the seventh, but was left stranded as the next UNM batter grounded out to first base.
