Albuquerque, N.M. --- Through the hard work of 90 volunteers (Ambassadors) and Lobo Club staff, Lobo Club members have generously given over $3.7 million to UNM Athletics, a great start for the 2013-14 year. The Lobo Club commemorated this success at the annual Super Celebration, which marks the end of the Ambassador Drive.

During the two months of the Ambassador Drive, the Ambassadors renew Lobo Club members and recruit new members to raise funds for student-athlete scholarships. The Ambassador program consisted of seven teams this year lead by captains David Smoak, Rudy Diaz, Susie Singer, Bart Kinney, Scott Gates, Norm Burns and JC Lopez.

The Chair, Lynn Mosher, and Co-Chair, Chris Cates lead the charge and helped the Ambassador program increase the overall total scholarship money raised by 65% (Lobo Scholarship Fund and Gift-in-Kind only) from the 2012-13 drive. During these two months, 2,717 Lobo Club members gave $3,711,186.56. Of these totals $196,092.56 was new dollars to the scholarship fund from 447 new members.

Top individual honors went to David Smoak, the Veteran MVP, who raised $13,630 in new money and David Crowley, the Andy Lujan Rookie MVP, who raised $8,510 in new money. Cliff Gramer was honored as the Membership Drive appointee to the Lobo Club Board of Directors and Yvonne Moise was named the Top Producer overall raising $149,010. Other individual awards went to Melanie Burns for recruiting 27 new members as a rookie and to Robert Roach for being the top producing rookie overall raising $19,217. Norm Burns received the most Lobo Spirited award for exciting great Lobo enthusiasm throughout the drive.

There were also awards noting the Top five overall producers:

  • Yvonne Moise- $149,010
  • Lynn Mosher- $113,788.50
  • Gordon Noonan- $105,578.75
  • Rudy Diaz- $98,175
  • Noel Behne- $91,361

And the Lobo Club also acknowledged the Ambassador All-Star team, which consisted of great contributors to the drive:

  • Bill Michael- raised $84,526 overall
  • J.J. Griego- as a rookie brought in 13 new members
  • Charles White- as a veteran brought in 16 new members
  • Annalisa Griego- as a rookie brought in 10 new members
  • Robin Miller- as a rookie brought in 10 new members

The team awards went to "Rudy's C-P-Aces" for the most new money ($32,915), "Holy Smoak" for the most new members (76) and "Singer's Brigade" for the highest percentage to goal. The teams this year represented a great drive and really showed their dedication to raising scholarships for University of New Mexico student-athletes.

Lynn Mosher, Ambassador Drive Chair, stated, "I believe that the Ambassadors of the Lobo Club feel that it is a privilege to raise funds for scholarships for University of New Mexico student-athletes. Our Ambassadors are passionate volunteers for UNM Athletics and see the importance in funding scholarships that assist outstanding young men and women in obtaining a college education."

"We are truly grateful for the efforts of our Ambassadors that work to better the lives of Lobo Student-Athletes," said Lee De Leon, Executive Director of the Lobo Club.

The Ambassador Program serves as a launching point for increasing membership in "The Drive to 5,000," which lasts until December 31, 2014. By growing to 5,000 members, Lobo Club memberships could offset the annual $4 million cost for Student-Athlete scholarships.
