UPDATE - All-America senior Robert Caldwell will be among four University of New Mexico athletes taking part in the 2008 National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. this weekend. Caldwell will be joined by juniors Whitney Johnson and Adam Martinez, and sophomore Aditi Majumdar, along with coaches Mario Wilson and Derek Mackel, at the elite clinic and competition.

A redshirt during the 2007 indoor and outdoor seasons, Caldwell earned All-America honors with an eighth place finish at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships and also competed at the '06 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Socorro, N.M. product was the '06 Mountain West Conference indoor runner-up in the event with a career-best height of 17' 7 1/4".

Johnson also redshirted the 2007 indoor and outdoor seasons after suffering a torn ACL while training for the 2006 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship meet. An all-MWC performer indoors as a true freshman in 2005, Johnson recorded a career-best mark of 13' 1 3/4" during the `06 indoor season. The San Diego product also set the UNM outdoor pole vault record with a jump of 13' 1/4" in '06.

Martinez, meanwhile, is coming off a breakthrough 2007 outdoor campaign in which he lead the Lobo men with a career-best vault of 16' 3/4". The Albuquerque Valley product cleared the 16-foot mark at UTEP and again in a sixth place finish at the MWC Championship meet.

Majumdar also enjoyed a strong 2007 season after being sidelined by a knee injury of her own in '06. The Socorro product appeared in six meets, clearing a lifetime best of 10' 2" in her final competition of the outdoor season in Albuquerque.

First-year head coach Joe Franklin and the rest of New Mexico track and field team open the indoor season on Jan. 19 at Northern Arizona's Lumberjack Invite in Flagstaff, Ariz.
