TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The first day of the USA Diving FINA World Championships and World University Games Trials has come and gone, and it saw jam packed competition from some of the best divers in the world.

Ashlee Erickson participated in the women's 1-meter springboard today and finished 16th in the 20 diver field with a tally of 203.10 to keep her out of the final round.

Deidre Freeman, who dove for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes came out of the preliminary round in first place with a score of 274.75 and was followed by Samantha Pickens of the University of Arizona and Victoria Ishimatsu of USC who were in second and third place.

In the final round however, Pickens- who was NCAA Champion in the 1-meter board this year- rallied to take first place with a score of 537.00. Deidre was 5.90 points behind her with a tally of 532.90.

Erickson was the only diver from any Mountain West affiliate to participate in today's events.

Up next for Erickson is the 3-meter springboard which takes place this Friday, May 17 at 8 a.m.
