ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After one of the most decorated seasons in program history on the field, New Mexico men’s soccer junior Kyle Venter is now collecting off-the-field awards as well. The defender was named a NSCAA First Team Scholar All-American as one of the nation’s most well rounded student-athletes.

Venter becomes the second Lobo to receive Academic All-American honors this season. Senior Levi Rossi was a Capital One Academic All-America Third Team member back in November.

The NSCAA scholar award is the second in Venter’s career. He was also a First Team NSCAA Scholar All-American in 2011. The Aurora, Colorado native’s award marks the twelfth time a Lobo has received the NSCAA’s highest individual academic honor since 1998. The dozen NSCAA Scholar All-Americans combine with the program’s 17 other academic award winners from other organizations give New Mexico 29 Academic All-Americans since 1998. The program has also taken home the NSCAA’s Academic Team Award nine times in the last ten years.

Venter’s on-the-field resume this season included being named a Third Team All-American by the NSCAA and College Soccer News. He was also First Team All-Conference in the MPSF and First Team All-Region. He garnered additional national exposure as a member of TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Season.

The academic award is the fourth major accolade of his career. He is a two-time member of the Academic All-MPSF Team in addition to his repeat appearances on the NSCAA’s Scholar All-America teams. Venter is on pace to collect his third Academic All-MPSF award in the near future.
