Lobos Lead Alpine Races at Utah Invite

The University of New Mexico Ski team leads the Utah Invitational after the completion of the Alpine portion of the meet on Monday in Park City, Utah. The Lobo men took home the slalom title while the women skied to a second place finish in the slalom on the final day of Alpine competition. The Nordic teams will return to Soldier Hollow, Utah on January 23-24 for the cross country races.

New Mexico scored 287 points in two days of races to lead Denver (275) by 12 points. Utah sits in third place with 268 points while Colorado is in fourth with 210.5 points.

Freshmen Peter Roering and Lars Loeseth had another strong showing on Monday in the slalom races after finishing 1-2 in Sunday's giant slalom. This time the pair finished 2-3 in the slalom, with Loeseth leading the way. Sophomore Christian Jensen rounded out the men's scoring with a ninth place finish. Freshman Alex Mach and sophomore Alex Freberg were also racing for the Lobos, placing 13th and 19th respectively.

The women's team was lead by senior captain Jennifer Delich's fourth place finish in the slalom. Her fourth place time tied her career-best finish in the slalom. Sophomore Gladys Weidt also had a career-high with a seventh place finish in Monday's race. Rounding out the Lobo scoring was sophomore Kathrin Spendier, who placed 12th on Monday. Junior Helena Woodrow also raced for the Lobos and placed 17th.

The Lobos head to Sugar Bowl, Calif. For the Nevada Invitational which begins on January 15. The Nordic team will also compete in the Nevada Invite before completing the Utah Invitational.
