Sophomore Alpine skier Lars Loeseth tied his career-best finish with a second-place showing in the men's giant slalom at the University of Alaska-Anchorage meet in Jackson, Wyoming. The Lobos are in fourth place at the second Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association meet of the season.

Loeseth's two run time of 1:39.50 was just .18 seconds off the pace set by Alaska-Anchorage's Andreas Neuhauser. Fellow sophomore Peter Roering also had a top-10 showing with his eighth place finish. Alex Mach, also a sophomore, rounded out the Lobo scoring by placing 24th. Also skiing for the Lobo men was senior Alexander Freberg who finished 36th.

Leading the women's team was junior Kathrin Spendier's eighth place finish in the giant slalom. Freshman Lene Kaasa and senior Helena Woodrow also scored for the Lobos, placing 20th and 36th, respectively. Other skiers racing for UNM included Jennifer Shively (47th), Gladys Weidt (64th) and Staci Rixford (DNF).

Racing continues on Friday, January 14, with the men's and women's slalom races and the start of the Nordic events. Nordic teams will compete in freestyle racing on Friday and conclude the meet with the classic races on Saturday.
