BOISE, IDAHO - With an hour rain delay postponing the match to 11 a.m. MT, the Lobos had to stay loose for their match against Nevada. The Lobos had a close battle but were defeated with a score of 4-3 on neutral ground. The Lobos will face Fresno State * tomorrow at 10 a.m. MT.
To start things off in doubles, Nevada took an early lead taking numbers one, with a score of 8-4, and two, with a score of 8-5. Kristin Eggleston and Nikolina Grbac were the last to finish, giving UNM a boost of confidence as they were able to come out on top defeating their opponents with a close score of 8-6.
With the doubles point in the Wolfpack's hands, the Lobos looked to singles to shake things up.
At number three singles, senior Kristin Eggleston came through after a 6-3 first set loss to Sophie Stevens. Eggleston dropped only four games in the next two sets to win the match in three sets with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
At number four singles, Sarah Mahboob Khan pulled out a close second set match defeating Sheila Smiley with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Senior Laura Richardson also was able to pull out a `W' as she defeated Monika Magusiak with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
In the end, Nevada was able to pull out a heartbreaker over UNM with a final score of 4-3 pushing Nevada to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
"It was a tough battle today--definitely a hard one to lose--but I was pleased with how we competed at most spots," Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. "Kristin Eggleston had a really good day--Kristin is someone who had lost a few close ones the last couple weeks, so it was great to see her fight through and come out on top today."
The Lobos are now 1-6 in conference play and are 7-13 overall. The Lobos will continue in Boise, Idaho to face conference opponent Fresno State at 10 a.m. MT to end the regular season.
