AUSTIN, Texas — After day two of the 2012 NCAA West Preliminary, the University of New Mexico track and field team qualified three more athletes to the national championship in Des Moines, Iowa. Sprinter Beejay Lee, jumper Floyd Ross and distance runner Ruth Senior all advanced to Drake University for the finals of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Lee, a West Covina, Calif., product, raced a 10.26 time in the 100 to qualify for the finals. After knocking out a personal-best time of 10.38 in Thursday's first round, Lee—the only freshman to qualify for the 100 championships—ratcheted it up once again to place fourth in his highly competitive heat and ninth overall. He now ranks second all-time at New Mexico in the 100.

Ross, a junior from Memphis, Tenn., tallied a personal-record of 52-feet, 7.25 inches in the triple jump to secure his place in the championships. His leap, registered on his first attempt of the night, placed him third overall and earned him a chance to improve on his eighth-place finish recorded at the 2012 indoor championships.

Senior, out of Norwich, England, clocked a 10:21.58 time in the women's 3000 steeplechase to lock up her place in Des Moines. Senior, who now holds the top seven steeplechase times in UNM history, advances to her third consecutive outdoor championship.

The Lobos already advanced one athlete, Sarah Waldron, on Thursday after her performance in the 10000.

New Mexico registered four more results at Michael A. Myers Stadium on Friday. On the men's side, Ty Kirk came within 3 3/4 inches of qualifying to Drake after his PR-tying jump of 50-11 placed 14th. Lee also ran in the 200 (less than two hours after his race in the 100), placing 46th with a 22.70 time. De'Vron Walker finished 42nd in the 110 hurdles with a 14.45 time.

For the women, Precious Selmon placed 43rd in the 100 hurdles with a 13.89 time.

On Saturday, five Lobos will be competing. Out in the field, Logan Pflibsen (pole vault) and Django Lovett (high jump) take on first round action, while on the track, Sam Evans (1500), Nicholas Kipruto (5000) and Sean Stam (5000) will vie with the quarterfinal round.

The meet resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT) with the men's discus. New Mexico action starts with Pflibsen in the pole vault at 1 p.m. (CT), and ends with Kipruto and Stam in the 5K at 8:05 p.m. (CT).
