Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer program closed their two-game exhibition schedule with their second victory in three days as they defeated San Diego State 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lobos were propelled to victory by goals from sophomore Carson Baldinger and junior Michael Calderon. For Calderon, it was his second goal of the exhibition season after scoring in the second half on Thursday night at Cal State Northridge.

New Mexico would again surrender an early goal in this match as Morgan Socco would score from seven yards out in the 14th minute to give the Aztecs the 1-0 lead. Cal State Northridge had scored in the 9th minute against UNM in Thursday’s first exhibition contest.

The Lobos’ equalizer would come off Michael Calderon’s unassisted goal in the 36th minute. The junior’s goal would come on the first shot of the game for New Mexico.

The offense would pick up in the second half for UNM. After only tallying one shot in the first half, the Lobos would get off six more in the second half. Carson Baldinger’s shot in the 66th minute would be true as he would score the go-ahead goal off an assist from freshman Casey Phillips.

Sophomore Javier Lane’s shift in goal would come in the second half. Lane would make a pair of saves to help ensure the 2-1 victory. He and fellow goalkeeper, Patrick Poblete, would combine for three saves in their 90 minutes of work.

The victory wraps up an undefeated exhibition season for the Lobos after they defeated Cal State Northridge on Thursday evening 3-2.

The cherry and silver will return to the pitch on Friday, August 24th for their regular season opener at UCLA. The match-up will feature a pair of teams ranked in the top ten in the NSCAA preseason coaches rankings. The game, scheduled for an 8 p.m. start time will be broadcasted on the newly-formed PAC-12 Network. For more information about that broadcast, click here.
