2012-13 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Awards Announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico Women’s Basketball program continues its strong showing the Mountain West Conference’s various academic awards. Three Lobos were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes, which came days after a conference-high ten Lobos received academic all-conference honors.

Caroline Durbin (Business Administration), Chinyere Nnaji (Biology) and Whitney Johnson (Business Administration) all received the award for a second-straight year. Durbin and Nnaji, both seniors, have now received this award in all four years as members of the program.

The three award winners for the 2012-13 academic year marks the tenth-straight year New Mexico Women’s Basketball has had at least three scholar-athletes. Since the award was created by the Mountain West in 2003-04, UNM Women’s Hoops has amassed 51 MW Scholar-Athletes.

Just like the Mountain West Academic All-Conference awards, New Mexico Athletics led all conference members with 132 scholar-athletes.
