BOISE, IDAHO - The Lobos end their regular season with a 6-1 loss to #55 Fresno State*. The Lobos finish 1-7 in conference play and 7-14 overall. UNM will now prepare for the Mountain West Tournament on April 25-28, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
To start things off in doubles, Fresno State took all three doubles matches with a score of 8-2.
With the doubles point in the Bulldog's hands, the Lobos looked to singles to shake things up.
One Lobo, Michaela Bezdickova, was able to escape from the grip Fresno State had winning her match in three sets. Bezdickova took the first set 6-0 but her opponent, Rana Sherif Ahmed, was not willing to admit defeat just yet winning the second set 6-3. It came down to the third and final set to decide the winner and Bezdickova was able to clinch the match with a close score of 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).
At number four singles, senior Laura Richardson battled back from a 6-3 first set loss against Bianca Modoc. She was able to come out on top in the second with the same score of 6-3, forcing a third set to decide the match. Modoc picked up her game and managed to squeeze past Richardson taking the match 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Fresno State advances to 6-2 in conference play and 14-7 overall after defeating UNM 6-1 on neutral ground.
"Fresno State came out and really exploited us in doubles--we were a little tentative and they jumped all over us on all 3 courts and didn't look back," Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. "I thought we re-grouped well in singles and put up a good fight at a number of spots despite being without Nina Grbac. Misa Bezdickova stepped up big in the superbreaker, which was nice to see, to pick up the win against a tough opponent."
The Lobos finish 1-7 in conference play and 7-14 overall. This matchup ends the Lobos regular season as they prepare for the Mountain West Tournament on April 25-28, 2013.
