INDIANAPOLIS - Two days of competition at the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships have come and gone, and sophomore diver Michole Timm has finished 24th and 29th off the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, respectively.

Junior Samantha Pickens of Arizona took the crown off the 1-meter board with a tally of 331.00; while Casey Matthews of Purdue took the title off the 3-meter with a score of 374.15.

Competition on the national stage is tough and as Diving Coach Abel Sanchez stated he's proud of his diver regardless of the results.

"This was a good meet all around," Sanchez said. "There are a lot of tough divers here and you can't miss a dive. We missed one dive on both boards and it's something you can't do, but that in no way takes away from the great season Michole had. We're going to take this as a learning experience and go back home and work harder and smarter for next year."

Timm's score off the 1-meter board was 272.45 and her score off the 3-meter board was 290.55.

Divers got 6 dives in the preliminary round and the top 16 divers off board boards advanced on to the finals round. The top eight finishers competed for the title of NCAA Champion, while the bottom half duked it out in consolation finals. The top 16 divers all earned All-American status.

Last season Ashlee Erickson earned All-American status after finishing 16th off the 1-meter board with a tally of 267.90 and giving New Mexico a single point on the score board.

Timm may not have placed top 16 in either event, but the underclassmen still has two years left and unlimited potential.

"I'm very proud of Michole and her performance at NCAA's," Sanchez said. "Even though she didn't perform like we would have wanted to she's young and we have a lot of learning experiences in front of us. We're going to move forward."

Competition concludes tomorrow with the platform dive taking place. Timm is one of 29 participants in the field.
