ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico athletic program is in 13th place in the first set of Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings released Thursday.
The Lobos have two top-25 national finishes to their credit. They have 120.50 points so far, thanks to a 10th-place finish in women’s cross country (which earned 67.50 points) and a 21st- place finish in men’s cross country (53 points).
Princeton is the surprising leader with 195 points in the first fall standings, which includes results in cross country and field hockey. Princeton won the national championship in field hockey (worth 100 points), finished 32nd in women’s cross country (29 points) and 11th in men’s cross country (66 points).
UNM is the only school from the Mountain West among the 69 schools that have scored this season. The next fall standings will be released on Dec. 13.
