ALBUQUERUQE, N.M. - It was a fitting ending for the University of New Mexico men's soccer team as it tied 1-1 with the Lobo Alumni during the Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) Fundraiser and Alumni All-Star game, Saturday evening at the UNM Soccer Complex. Nearly 3,000 fans gathered together to show their support for former Lobo Patrick Grange, who was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.

"It's really special to see all these people out here, to see everyone rally around Pat," said former Lobo and assistant coach Brandon Moss. "To see this be put into motion and have everyone out here is just incredible."

Grange played soccer for Albuquerque High School and for the Lobos in 2003 and 2004. He was recently diagnosed four months ago with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a nerve-killing disease that has no cure.

"I can't say enough, it was amazing just the outpouring of support for Pat Grange is unreal," said head coach Jeremy Fishbein. "The community is just fantastic here, it's been that way all the time, just once again they came through in the clutch and I couldn't be happier."

The alumni struck first in the opening half of the game. Lance Watson scored the first goal of the game with 19:03 remaining in the half to go ahead 1-0.

In the second half, the Lobos knotted the game as Lance Rozeboom dished out a pass to Devon Sandoval who headed it in with 24:25 remaining in the game. The game ended in a 1-1 tie as no overtime was played.

"It was great," said Sandoval. "It was an honor playing against all these guys, I grew up watching them my whole life, so playing against them was a dream come true."

The Lobos will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for their final two games of spring ball. New Mexico will take on UC Irvine at 8 a.m. and Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. on April 30. The Lobos are currently 4-1-2 this spring.
