Final Stats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- The University of New Mexico men's tennis team faced a tough double header of matches on Saturday. Facing the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks that morning, the Lobos were able to glide through their matches and blank NAU 7-0. Later in the day, they were pitted against the Division III 13th ranked Wildcats from Abilene Christian. The Wildcats certainly gave the Lobos a run for their money, but New Mexico proved to be the better team besting ACU 7-0.

The no. 64 Lobo tandem of Conor Berg and Ben Dunbar made a solid comeback after Dunbar's knee injury from their trip to Arizona forced him to sit out the rest of the weekend and their most match against UT-San Antonio. Although Dunbar did not play singles, he and Berg took on both their opponents on Saturday with full strength and overpowered both the Lumberjacks and Wildcats. NAU `s Hugo Ramadier and Robin Pezzuto first fell victim to Berg and Dunbar 8-5. The Duo then went on to defeated Nick Plum and Jared Hope from ACU 8-2.

New Mexico's top singles player, Jadon Phillips came away with two more wins sweeping both his opponents in two-set matches. Phillips played hard to earn his defeats over the Lumberjack and Wildcat players. NAU's Hugo Ramadier kept Phillips on his toes but was unable to overcome the Lobo eventually falling to him 6-1, 7-5. ACU's Hans Hach brought a tougher match to the table with Phillips. Phillips nearly let Hoch get the best of him, but after getting a second wind of power Phillips took down the Wildcat 7-5, 7-6.

Freshman Mads Hegelund has continued to show improvement and skill, stepping up as the 6th man while Ben Dunbar has been rehabbing his injury. Hegelund out played both his opponents, defeating Lumberjack Josh Brown 6-4, 6-4 and Wildcat Nick Plum 6-2, 6-4

Despite being a difficult day for the Lobos, they were once again able to show that their hard work in practice and in matches is not to be taken lightly. The wins will help the New Mexico as they look forward to next weekend where they face another doubleheader on Saturday, March 5.
