Nordic Skiers Finish Strong This Weekend

The University of New Mexico Nordic Ski Team finished its first races of the season this weekend in West Yellowstone, Mont. with strong performances from some of its top skiers on Saturday. Sophomore Trine Lundamo represented the Lobos well with a 6th place overall finish in the 10K sprint race.

The only other woman to race this weekend was junior Pirkko Pulkkanen who place 30th overall in the 10K sprint. On the men's side, freshmen Dirk Grimm placed 13th, Jedd Young placed 16th and Geir-Endre Rogn placed 19th in the 15K sprint. Rogn also recorded a 7th place finish in the classic race on Friday and earned the Daily Lobo Student-Athlete of the Week.

Both the Nordic and Alpine teams will be in action this weekend. The Alpine team travels to Winter Park, Colo. for FIS Slalom and Giant Slalom races while the Nordic team is in Frisco and Breckenridge, Colo. for classic and freestyle FIS events.
