Rita Chavez is the Executive Assistant to Paul Krebs, Vice President for Athletics, and is in her 11th year with the Lobos. Rita was the Executive Assistant to the former Athletic Director, Rudy Davalos for six years. Rita has provided administrative support to the Athletic Council for the past 11 years. Rita was the staff representative on the presidential search committee for the University of New Mexico in 2007.
Rita served as a member of the Staff Council for six years as a grade rep and was the Co-Chair of the Rewards and Recognition Committee for three years. Rita is a member of the Administrative Support Alliance (ASA) and has served as the Chair for the ASA-Steering Committee. While employed at the University of New Mexico she attended and graduated from the Management Academy in 2006. Rita volunteered for the Lobo Club for nine years where she helped get people from the community to become members of the Lobo Club. The money that is donated to the Lobo Club is used for student-athlete scholarships. The Andy Lujan Award was presented to Rita for her time and dedication to the Lobo Club where she raised more that $75,000 during her years of service.
Rita has been active in several community fundraising events such as Chocolate Fantasy, Lobo Club Auction and Coaches vs. Cancer. Working as a volunteer in community fundraisers is a true passion of hers.
Rita is a native of Albuquerque and is married to Jerry Chavez. Rita has a daughter, Cherie' and a son-in-law, Victor Chavez.
