MOSCOW — For Jarrin Solomon, it’s the same old song and dance.

Last year it was the Olympics, this year the World Championships.

Solomon, a former University of New Mexico track and field athlete, qualified to the finals of the men's 4x400 meter relay Thursday at the 14th IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

A 2009 Lobo graduate and Albuquerque native, Solomon ran the second leg of the relay for Trinidad and Tobago, helping get the team with which he won his 2012 Olympic bronze medal back to finals of a world championship.

Along with Renny Quow, Lalonde Gordon and Deon Lendore, Solomon propelled Trinidad and Tobago to season-best time of 3:00.48, placing the squad second in its heat and third overall.

The United States finished with the best overall time in the semifinals, finishing in a world-leading time of 2:59.85. Jamaica was second overall at 3:00.41.

The Bahamas, the team that won gold at the 2012 Olympics, was unable to advance out of the semifinals after placing 13th overall (3:02.67).

The Trinidadians entered competition at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow with a previous season best of 3:02.20. The national record, which Solomon helped set at last year’s Olympics, is 2:59.40.

The finals will be contested tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. MT).
