ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s and women’s track and field teams will be holding team tryouts on Tuesday, August 27, and Wednesday, August 28, at 3:30 p.m. at the University of New Mexico’s Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
After claiming the Mountain West men’s indoor team title and women’s runner-up conference finishes indoors and out, the Lobos are looking to add talent as it gears up for another title run in 2014.
In order to try out, all interested students will need to fulfill a list of requirements before making their attempt.
To be eligible, prospective student-athletes must be enrolled as full-time students (12 credit hours) at UNM for the Fall 2013 semester.
Students will also need to bring a signed paper from physician proving they have undergone a physical within the last calendar year, performed anytime from August 27, 2012 through August 27, 2013. For those who have not had a physical within the year, they must have one performed before arriving at the UNM track complex for tryouts.
Proof of health insurance is also required. Students need to bring a health insurance card or papers from their health insurer, or if they do not have health insurance, students must have a policy before arriving at the UNM track complex.
Those interested must also be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center for NCAA initial eligibility.
The Lobos, led by seventh-year head coach Joe Franklin, saw their men’s program place in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) Program of the Year award final standings for the fourth straight year. New Mexico is also hosting the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship on March 14-15, 2014.
