#11 New Mexico – 1 Denver- 0 (Exhibition)
DENVER, Colo. – Mother Nature reared its ugly head for the second-straight exhibition for the eleventh-ranked University of New Mexico Lobos. A lightning delay minutes before the scheduled start time pushed the match back an hour. The weather system also brought heavy rains to Ciber Field at Denver University, which created a lot of uneasy footing for both teams throughout the night.
The match was scoreless through the first half with Denver holding a 5-1 shot advantage, which included a pair of Michael Lisch saves. The Lobo attack yielded a threatening chance in the 44th minute when Mathew Gibbons fired a shot from deep in the box that was saved by Denver’s Oliver Brown.
The Lobos opened the second half by upping the tempo in possession as New Mexico took the first two shots of the half in the initial minutes off a pair of Michael Calderon corner kicks. The game slowed down a bit, but the Cherry & Silver regained possession and found the back of the net.
The match’s only goal came off the foot of freshman Niko Hansen. His teammate, James Rogers, triggered the action by driving deep into the box. Rogers forced a Denver defender to him as the two collided on the tackle. The ball trickled backwards to Hansen as he was finishing his run. Hansen booted it from ten yards out from the right side of the box for the score in the 78th minute.
Senior Michael Lisch played all 90 minutes to record the shutout. Saturday night’s exhibition shutout was the first for the Texan in a New Mexico uniform. He recorded six saves on the night.

• Freshman Niko Hansen’s goal was his second of the preseason. The Sacramento, Calif. native scored the Lobos’ second goal in the 3-1 win over Grand Canyon to open exhibition play.
• Michael Lisch picked up his first shutout as a Lobo. In three exhibitions, he has not allowed a goal in nearly 200 minutes of play this preseason.
Next Up: The 2013 Lobo Soccer season officially begins next week. The Lobos will host Villanova on Friday, August 30 at 7 pm (MT) at the UNM Soccer Complex.
