ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- College Sports Madness has named University of New Mexico senior running back Kasey Carrier the Madness Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week.
Carrier gained 291 yards and scored four touchdowns on a career-high 41 carries during UNM's 42-35 overtime victory over UTEP in El Paso, Texas on Saturday night. The win ended the Lobos' 16-year losing streak in the state of Texas (a losing streak of 15 games).
Carrier scored the game-winning touchdown on a 21-yard run in overtime. His 291 yards are the second best performance in school history, just behind his 338-yard effort against Air Force last season.
Carrier's four rushing touchdown matched his career high -- he had four TD runs last year against Texas State -- and was one shy of the school record. The 41 carries were six shy of the school record.
The Pearland, Texas, native leads the nation in rushing with an average of 172.5 yards per game.
