2013-14 (Freshman Season)
After posting an 11-5 singles record in the fall tournament season and a 13-11 regular season singles record, Blankers completed her first season at UNM with an overall singles record of 24-16. Blankers’ 24 wins put her at the second most on the team for the season. She competed primarily in the No. 2 singles position, but stepped up to compete in the No. 1 spot for 3 of UNM’s 25 regular season matches. Blankers was the only Lobo to compete in the No. 1 spot besides Michaela Bezdickova. Blankers earned her first All-Mountain West award of her career for her success in singles play during the 2013-14 season. Blankers and Bezdickova were the only Lobos to earn the award.
Blankers also had an impressive doubles season in 2013-14. Blankers and Bezdickova posted a regular season doubles record of 15-7 and a fall tournament record of 6-4 to put them at an overall doubles record of 21-11. The duo competed in the No. 1 doubles spot for the majority of the season. Blankers and Bezdickova also earned the All-MW honor for doubles play for the 2014 season.
Blankers went 0-3 in singles during the 2014 MW Championships playing at the No. 2 spot. Blankers and Bezdickova tallied a doubles win in the semifinals of the tournament to help push the Lobos to the finals. However, the duo came up short in the finals match to finish the tournament with a 1-1 doubles record.
Blankers finished the season ranked 13th in the ITA Mountain Region singles rankings and Blankers and Bezdickova were ranked 5th in the Mountain Region doubles rankings. She was one of two Lobos to earn a regional ranking in singles.
Blankers also received plenty of recognition for academic success during her first year at UNM. She was named to the 2014 Academic All-Mountain West team and was also named a 2014 MW Scholar-Athlete. Additionally, Blankers was named a 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete.
Prior to UNM
Lizette Blankers played tennnis at TOC Capelle aan den Ijssel. She was ranked in singles at 62 and 91 in doubles by Dutch rankings. As a junior player, she was vice-champion at the 14 and under national championships and was ranked as high as No. 6 in the Dutch junior rankings.
She is the daughter of Jeroen and Anky Blankers and the sister of Karlyn Blankers. She plans to pursue her interest in medicine while at UNM. When she's not playing tennis, Blankers enjoys hanging out with her friends.
