ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico Women’s Basketball program has received another honor for the 2012-13 season. Caroline Durbin, a recent alumnus of the program, has received the Female Athlete of the Year Award from the UNM Alumni Lettermen’s Association. The association’s committee will honor Durbin at the UNM Athletic Hall of Honor awards dinner on Friday, November 15, 2013.

“Caroline was selected for this award because she truly represented the complete student-athlete. She was an exceptional student and a fantastic athlete. Her successes came in all three areas; in the classroom, on the court and in the community. Caroline is a great embodiment of our proud UNM letterman alumni base, and we are honored to have her as one of our own,” said Madison Warren, Executive Director of the Alumni Letterman’s Association.

The Texan graduated from the program as the most academically-decorated Lobo in program history. She was the first player in program history to receive back-to-back Academic All-American awards and just the second player in Mountain West history to do so as well. Durbin earned a degree in Business while graduating with a 4.18 cumulative grade point average. She is currently attending graduate school at the University of Texas and is working on her master’s degree in professional accounting.

The guard also left the program with numerous athletic awards. She was a two-time selection to MW All-Conference teams and was the 17th player in UNM history to score 1,000 career points. She also rewrote the Lobo history books in season and career three-point shooting categories.

The 2013-14 edition of New Mexico Women’s Basketball will hit the hardwood in a matter of weeks. Coach Sanchez and company will host a pair of exhibitions in The Pit during the first week of November.
