It’s back to the pitch for Head Coach Jeremy Fishbein and the 14th-ranked New Mexico Men’s Soccer team. The Lobos will host Drake University on Friday, September 20th at 7 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex. Coach Fishbein and company will look to find the back of the net, keep the ball out of their goal and put on a show for the Lobo Faithful. UNM continues to grow the environment at its home stadium with the goal turning a match into an experience for fans. Noisemakers, handouts and post-match autograph sessions at the rail are just part of what makes home matches so special in Albuquerque.
The “Not So Green” Greenhorns
New Mexico’s roster has talent throughout its classes, but the team’s freshmen are beginning to make an impact. A handful of freshmen have already recorded a point this season with Niko Hansen and Nick Rochowski already finding the back of the net this season. Fellow freshman James Wypych is tied for the team lead in assists as well.
A Balanced Attack
The Lobo attack has flourished this season thanks to its depth. Five different players have scored goals in their five matches this season. The attacking players are led by James Rogers with four goals. Michael Calderon and Niko Hansen are right behind Rogers with three goals apiece.
Great Attendance At The Complex
Lobo Soccer’s attendance is off to a great start thanks to the dedication of the “Lobo Faithful”. Through three matches, which includes bad weather and lightning delays, the Lobos are averaging 2,460 fans per match. That’s three times what UNM’s opponents are averaging and is above last season’s average of 2,212.
A New Streaming Package
New Mexico’s own video department, LoboTV, has begun expanding and enhancing the presentation of the free video stream of home matches. They continue to push the envelope and have begun incorporating multiple cameras and new announcing teams.
