ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico volleyball team travels to Las Cruces, N.M., on Monday for a 7 p.m. MT match against Rio Grande Rival New Mexico State.

The Lobos carry an eight-match win streak and a 9-1 overall record with them down to Las Cruces, while the Aggies are 5-7 and are coming off a 2-0 weekend in the NM State/UTEP Tournament. The Aggies earned a 3-1 win over Hampton on Sept. 20 before sweeping South Dakota State on Sept. 21.

NM State's other wins include Nevada (3-0), Southern Utah (3-1) and Northern Illinois (3-1). Two of the Aggies' seven losses have come at the hands of top-10 teams in then-No. 9 Hawaii and then-No.10 UCLA, both at Hawaii's Rainbown Wahine Tournament the first weekend of September.

New Mexico was competition-free over the weekend, but topped Air Force 3-1 on Sept. 19 in its Mountain West opener.

MORE LOBO VOLLEYBALL NOTES

WIN STREAK EXTENDS TO EIGHT...The Lobos extended their win streak to eight matches and opened Mountain West play on a positive note with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 26-24) decision at Air Force on Sept. 19.

Chantale Riddle, Lexi Ross and Cassie House had 11 kills apiece for the Lobos while Riddle added 12 digs for her second double-double of the season. Hannah Johnson had 40 assists and 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the season while senior Libero Miquella Lovato added 20 digs.

9-1 THROUGH FIRST 10 MATCHES...It’s just the fifth time in program history that the Lobos have a 9-1 start through the first 10 matches. New Mexico also opened with just one loss through its first 10 contests last year as well as in 1983, 1989 and 2008.

A RESPECTABLE STREAK, BUT...While eight-consecutive wins is respectable, it is not the Lobo record. It actually ranks tied for seventh in program history for longest win streak. The most consecutive wins for the Lobos is 16, done Oct. 11-Dec. 6, 1991.

Last season the Lobos won 11 straight, which ranks third in program history for win streaks and is the longest streak recorded by a UNM team coached by Nelson.

SO FAR IN SEPTEMBER...The Lobos are undefeated, have only lost three sets and have swept four teams.

SOMETHING ABOUT SATURDAYS...The Lobos are undefeated when playing on Saturday. They have wins over Northwestern State (Aug. 31), Georgia Tech (Sept. 7), Abilene Christian (Sept. 14) and Northern Arizona (Sept. 14).

Their next Saturday match is Sept. 28 when they host Colorado State.

SIX SWEET SWEEPS...In its first three weekends of play, New Mexico has recorded six sweeps. The Lobos started with a season-opening sweep over UMKC (Aug. 30) and continued with sweeps of Northwestern State (Aug. 31), UC Riverside (Sept. 6), Idaho State (Sept. 6), Abilene Christian (Sept. 14) and Northern Arizona (Sept. 14).

SEVENTY-PERCENT CHANCE...Redshirt junior Hannah Johnson has a Mountain West best seven double-doubles in the Lobos’ first 10 matches of the season, which means there’s a 70-percent chance she’ll double-double when she steps on the court.
