Albuquerque, N.M. --- The schedule is set, the time is in place, and now it’s a countdown to the Lobo Howl on Friday, October 18 at The Pit.  The Howl will take place from 6:00-9:00 pm and it is free to the public. Gates open at 6pm and that will be your first chance to look around and get a seat for the event.

ESPNU will be live on site to broadcast from The Pit with analyst Miles Simon handling the action. The Lobo men’s program is one of nine men’s programs being highlighted throughout the night by the ESPN Family of Networks.

Parking for the event is also free, but fans should plan on getting to The Pit early as the UNM women’s soccer team in hosting Nevada at 5 p.m. and will utilize spaces in the Stadium East lot.  Stadium West will have cars utilizing the lot as there is a high school football game that night in Branch Field at University.  Also, The Pit North lot will be set up for RV parking for the New Mexico-Utah State football game on October 19.

"This is another opportunity to showcase Lobo Basketball, The Pit and New Mexico,” said Brad Hutchins, Associate AD for Marketing and Revenue.  “To be part of the ESPNU Midnight Madness for college basketball is a testament to our basketball program and our tremendous fan base."

Last season the nation got a taste of Lobo fandom when nearly 15,000 fans showed up for the season opener, a midnight game on ESPN from The Pit as UNM hosted Davidson in the ESPN 24 Hours of College Hoops Marathon.  New Mexico is one of only three teams in the nation to have won four conference regular season titles in the last five years, joining Kansas and Gonzaga.  The Lobos picked up 23 of 24 first place votes in the Mountain West preseason media poll, and Kendall Williams was named preseason Player of the Year in the conference.  He and Alex Kirk were both named preseason all-conference as well.

The Lobo Howl is also the first chance to catch the Lobo women in action under third-year head coach Yvonne Sanchez.  Last year the squad featured the Mountain West Sixth Person of the Year in Antiesha Brown.  Brown and the rest of the Lobos look to be prominently featured next week when the Mountain West releases to preseason women’s poll and all-conference teams.

The schedule of event is as follows:
6 – 7 p.m.           Select-A-Seat
6 – 6:30 p.m.      Women’s Basketball Autographs (North Concourse)
6:30 – 7 p.m.      Men’s Basketball Autographs (North Concourse)

610 The Sports Animal will be broadcasting live from The Pit throughout the day starting with The Opening Drive with Jeff Siembieda, J.J. Buck and Michael Carlyle and The Sports Bar with David Jubb and Brandon Vogt. In addition, ESPN Radio 101.7 The Team will be broadcasting The Locker Room with Bob Brown show from the Lobo Ticket Office in The Pit Frontier/Golden Pride Foyer.

This is your first chance to see the 2013-14 Lobo basketball teams and this event is free to all in attendance. Concessions and the Lobo Den Store will be open as well.
