Lobo Faithful:

Want to make sure everyone knows that Lobo Men's Soccer home match this Saturday versus Florida Atlantic kicks off at 1:00 pm. The schedule magnets say 8:00 pm, but the game time has been changed due to football's earlier start.

LOBOS VS. FLORIDA ATLANTIC SATURDAY OCTOBER 19TH 1:00 PM LOBO SOCCER STADIUM

I'm real happy with our teams performance the past four matches. 3-0-1 in Conference-USA play with great team unity, leadership and everyone back to good health. This week couldn't have come at a better time. Seven days between games and ample time to recover, re-focus and get the student-athlete balance back. Five regular season conference matches remain and each will be a battle.

LOBOS VS. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12TH 7:00 PM LOBO SOCCER STADIUM

Coming off Wednesday's victory on the road versus Tulsa, FIU would be our third match in nine days. This important game would be a test of our durability and physical and mental toughness. The boys passed this challenging test…..but we could have made it much easier on ourselves.

Florida International is a very talented, attack-minded team. With a week to prepare for our match, they were fresh and prepared. To our team’s credit, the players came out very focused and energized. We took the game to FIU from the kickoff. Our reward came in the 21st minute. We got a great goal from freshman Chris Wehan off a Niko Hansen pass. Wehan's first goal of the season and an important one for his confidence and for the team. Tremendous play the remaining 24 minutes, but we couldn't find the net……this would lead to some stressful moments down the line. The Lobos led 1-0 at halftime.

We came out a bit sluggish in the second half and were punished two minutes in. Some sloppy play, far post service…1-1 and a war! FIU made every play a battle and began to go very direct. A very stressful and combative 45 minutes of soccer. We still had the better of play, but not on our terms. It was 1-1 at the end of regulation. I felt good going into overtime, as we had begun to get ahold of the match. Eight minutes into the first period of overtime, Ben McKendry hit a far post serve to Kyle Venter, who headed it back across the goal….James Rogers with a blast off the bar and great follow-up header to win it for the Lobos. 2-1 overtime victory! Great win for the team; dealing with adversity and the confidence of the overtime win, will prove very valuable down the stretch.

YOU NEED TO HAVE A LOOK AT THE GAME WINING GOAL.

We are now twelve games into our 17-game regular season. This is the time of year when good teams show what they are about. We are finding our form and the players are focused, driven and are "controlling what they have control over". Everyone is excited to get back on the field Saturday and keep things rolling! Thanks for your tremendous support and remember that kickoff is at 1:00 this Saturday against Florida Atlantic.

Today’s episode of "Fish Off The Pitch" will air tonight with special guest freshman Chris Gurule.

GO LOBOS!
