UNM’s Samir Iftikhar is headed for the semifinal round of the singles bracket after rallying through two tough three-set matches on Friday afternoon. He started off the day by defeating the University of Idaho’s Artemiy Nikitin in a long three-hour battle. Iftikhar then had to turnaround and take on Thomas Tenreiro of Boise State in the quarterfinals. Iftikhar was able to pull off the victory over Tenreiro with a final score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-0. He will compete in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
Lobos Rodolfo Juaregui and Hayden Sabatka are also advancing in regional play. The duo earned a spot in the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket after defeating Utah State’s Dennis Baumgartner and Sebastian Schneider, 8-3, on Friday morning.
Juaregui also saw success in the back draw of singles play as he battled through the third and fourth round of the consolation bracket on Friday. He will face Denver’s Alex Clinkenbeard in the quarterfinals.
The Lobos look to continue their success through Saturday’s tournament play.
