LONG BEACH, Calif. – University of New Mexico senior midfielder Michael Calderon has been named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Week. Calderon earned the honor after converting penalty kicks in each of New Mexico’s wins last week; over No.10 UAB and No.24 Old Dominion.
The Costa Rican is now tied for second on the team with six goals. He is four of five on penalty kicks this season, and he has two assists as well. He’s tallied ten goals and ten assists in his 35 appearances for New Mexico after transferring from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The honor marks the second time Calderon has received the national honor. He was on TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Week after scoring two goals and tallying an assist in New Mexico’s 7-2 victory over Villanova in their season opener. The midfielder was also named to Conference USA’s Preseason All-Conference Team back in August.
Calderon and the rest of the Lobos will wrap up their season with Senior Day on Saturday, November 9. UNM will host Kentucky in their regular season finale at the UNM Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. (MST).
