Brooke Ellison, a senior defender on the New Mexico women's soccer team, has been named Capital One/CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-America.  She becomes the 10th Academic All-American in the last three years in the department, and she is the third women's soccer play to earn the honor in the 20 year history of the program.
Ellison, who just wrapped up her career as a four-year letter winner, is the first Lobo women's soccer player to earn Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since Alexis Ball was a Third Team selection in 2009.  That only other player to be an Academic All-American was Erchen Theys, who like Ellison was a Second Team pick in 2002.
Ellison was the only Mountain West player to make one of the three teams.  Of the more than 8,800 players on Division I teams in 2013, only 33 are selected for each of the three teams.  Ellison finished her career tied for sixth in games played with 79, tied for eighth in games played with 74 and seventh in career minutes with 6,381.   She was the part of conference championship teams in 2010 and 2011, and NCAA College Cup teams in both of those seasons.
