COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of New Mexico senior Charlotte Arter has been named Mountain West Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested from Jan. 28 through Feb. 3. This is the second overall selection of her track career and her first indoors.
Arter, from Carlisle, England, raced to a personal-record clocking of 4 minutes, 38.20 seconds in the women's mile at the New Mexico Team Invitational on Feb. 1. She placed second in the race, and, in the process, claimed the Mountain West lead and the seventh-best time in the NCAA this year.
She is currently second all-time in the mile at UNM and second all-time in Mountain West history. Only former teammate and two-time All-American Josephine Moultrie has a faster time (4:36.59).
Arter's time is also the second-fastest time by a collegian in Albuquerque Convention Center history and the fifth-fastest mile time of all female United Kingdom runners this year.
This is the first indoor track & field athlete of the week recognition for Arter. The MW also recognized her as the conference outdoor athlete of the week on April 2, 2013.
Air Force's Dylan Bell earned the honor on the men’s side.
