BIG DAY YESTERDAY FOR UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SOCCER. NATIONAL SIGNING DAY for high school student/athletes. T's have been crossed, i's dotted and eight dynamic, eager and talented young men have officially become members of the University of New Mexico Soccer Program. It's a cliché, but they are now part of "our family". Associate Head Coach Paul Souders and former assistant coach, Brandon Moss, worked tirelessly to construct this mature, conscientious and extremely talented group. Our class consists of three student-athletes from New Mexico, three from Texas (Khouri originally from South Carolina), one from California and one from Arizona by way of England.
David Gros, Justin Hix and CJ Slough are our New Mexico contingent and will get the opportunity to play in front of their families and hometown faithful. Justin is a second generation Lobo, as his father Jason, was a Lobo Soccer player from 1992-94. CJ played for Lobo Soccer alum Billy Thiebaut (1991-94) at Volcano Vista HS in Rio Rancho and David Gros is a long time club teammate of Hix and Slough from the Rio Vista FC Reds. We've had our eyes on all three for quite some time…..since they were in diapers (not really that long).
Patrick Khouri joins us from Dallas, Texas and the MLS FC Dallas Academy, Matt Dorsey and Gabriel Camera join us from Houston, Texas and the MLS Houston Dynamo Academy, Wayde Scibilia from the sunny beaches of San Diego, California and the San Diego Soccer Club and Sam Gleadle dodging the heat and cactus of Scottsdale, Arizona joins us from the MLS Real Salt Lake Academy. I can't say enough about this class and the lasting impact they are going to have on Lobo Soccer. Each of these young men is committed to excellence in the classroom, in the community and on the playing field. We received the official team grade point average for the fall 2013 semester yesterday and it was outstanding! 3.43 team GPA! I can't say enough about the boys’ commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field. Associate Head Coach Paul Souders oversaw the team’s academics (with an iron hand) and should be given the "lions share" of credit for the boys’ success.
I will stay in close contact throughout the winter and spring as we prepare for the 2014 season. We will release our spring match schedule in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for your incredible support and GO LOBOS!
