ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team is heading to Texas this weekend to battle Abilene Christian on Saturday and No. 25 Texas Tech on Sunday.

The Lobos open the weekend at the Teague Events Center in Abilene, Texas. UNM faces ACU for only the second time in program history. The Wildcat’s seven-member roster is bringing a mix of upperclassmen leaders and a few fresh faces. ACU’s young roster will be an advantage for the Lobos.

"We are excited to hit the road this weekend after having last weekend off," Head Coach Erica Jasper said. "Abilene Christian has an experienced team that has been very successful in the past at the Division II level. We expect a battle as they are very well coached."

On Sunday, the Lobos head north to take on No. 25 TTU at the McLeod Tennis Complex in Lubbock, Texas. UNM is seeking revenge against their highly ranked opponent, as the Lobos have not defeated the Red Raiders since 2007.

"Texas Tech has emerged over the last 4-5 seasons as one of the top teams in the Big 12 and a national contender," Jasper said. "Their talent, experience, and home crowd makes it one of the tougher places to play. It will be a great learning experience and challenge for this team as we continue to work and improve."

Pulling off the upset will not be an easy task for the Lobos. TTU’s nine-member roster features six upperclassmen and two ITA ranked players. Junior Kenna Kilgo is ranked at No. 58 in ITA Division I Women’s Singles Rankings. Kilgo and teammate Samantha Adams are ranked at No. 25 in the ITA D-I Women’s Doubles Rankings.

The Lobos and the Red Raiders are sitting at an even 11-11 overall record against one another and both teams are hungry to take the lead.

Results from both of the weekend’s matches will be posted on golobos.com as well as the UNM women’s tennis social media pages.
