Post-Game Notes: (20/20) New Mexico 70, Boise State 67

Streaks and trends

*New Mexico defeated Boise State 70-67 to advance to the Mountain West championship game for the third straight year.

*New Mexico now has 13 win away from The Pit, third-most in school history.  Twice UNM has won 14 away from The Pit

*New Mexico is now 22-2 when leading at the half.

*UNM is now 23-3 when shooting above 40% this season, 43-4 in the last 47, and 67-5 in the last three seasons.

*New Mexico has gone 26-4 in its last 30 games vs. MW teams, with the four losses by  combined eight points, and all with a chance for UNM to take the lead in the final 30 seconds.

In-Game Notes

*The Lobos led at the break 35-29.  It was only the 15 time in the last 20 games that a team has fewer than 33 or more in the opening half against UNM.

*New Mexico never trailed in the game for the second straight game.  UNM was tied twice in the contest…at 2-2 and 46-46.

*New Mexico in three games against Boise State trailed for a grand total of 2:13.

*New Mexico has not trailed in the tournament.

*New Mexico had four 0-for-2s from the free throw line in the game.

Head Coach Craig Neal        

*Improved to 26-6 in his career, and he is the winningest first year coach in school history.  Alford went 24-9 in 2007-08.

*He is two wins away from moving into the top 10 in NCAA history for most wins ever by a first year head coach in Division I history.

Junior C Alex Kirk                  

*Grabbed 11 rebounds and moved ahead of Drew Gordon into eighth on the career rebounds list with 668.

*Is sixth on the single-season blocked shots list with 83.

Senior F Cameron Bairstow

*Scored 21 points, his 31st double-figure scoring game of the season

*Stayed 21st in career scoring with 1,196 points.

*Is now 6th on the single-season scoring list with 651 points, passing Charles Smith and Johnny Brown.

*Now has 620 rebounds, good for a tie for 14th on the career list with Ben Monroe.

*10th player in school history with 1,100 points and 600 rebounds.

*Now has 21 20-point games this season.  Last year the Lobos as a team had just 16 20-points games as a group.

*Now has made 204 free throws this season, moving all the way from 6th to 2nd on the list.

*Now has attempted 277 free throws, moving from 4th to 2nd.

*Tied countryman Luc Longley on the games played list with 132, which is 10th.

 Senior G Kendall Williams

*Tied Dairese Gary for third in career games played at UNM with 135.

*Scored 16 points and passed Ruben Douglas for fifth on the school career scoring list with 1,794

*Moved ahead of Phil Smith with 549 career made free throws, the most in school history.

*Now has 719 career free throw attempts, moving into third ahead of Dairese Gary.

 

Junior G Deshawn Delaney

*Scored a career-high 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding four assists with no turnovers.

Freshman G Cullen Neal

*UNM is now 18-0 when he records at least two field goals in a game and just 8-6 when he doesn’t, and he went 0-for-3.
