ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Football camp has two very different meanings, depending on the season. Fall camp is about getting ready for the season, getting into the finer points of the playbook, and as UNM head football coach Bob Davie would say, about getting “from A to B”. Fall camp is “Go Time”.
Say Summer football camp however, and it’s about the youth in Albuquerque and the surrounding area, about teaching fundamentals, and a whole lot of fun for kids of all ages, including the staff and players who serve as camp instructors.
This year, the 2014 Lobo Football Camps will kick-off in style on June 10 and 11 with the Lobo Youth Camp. On June 13 and 14, the Lobo 7-on-7 Tournament & Offensive Line/Defensive Line Camp will take place, and camp season wraps up on July 19 with the Lobo High School Mini Camp. All of the Lobo Football Camps are extremely affordable and will provide a great backdrop to the game of football regardless of age or skill level.
The Lobo Football Youth Camp will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10 and 11, and cost $75. The camps are specifically for younger players learning the game of football, and will be two days of fun and instruction in the basics from the Lobo coaching staff and YAFL coaches. Registration for the camp can be found at www.nmyafl.org
The 7-on-7 Tournament and OL/DL Camp will run Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14. The camps costs $500 for a team of 20, or $100 per individual. The camps are for children grades 9-12. The camps are designed to provide each individual athlete sound instruction in the basic football fundamentals. The camps are directed by UNM Coach Bob Davie with assistance from his staff. Campers will receive the same quality coaching that every UNM player receives. The camps are non-padded, non-contact, skills teaching camps. A camp t-shirt and lunch will be provided both days.
The final Lobo Football Camp will take place on Saturday, July 19, and that is the High School Mini Camp, and it costs just $25 per camper. The camp is designed for kids grades 9-12, and all campers will receive a t-shirt and dinner. The mini camp will go over collegiate drills and allow for the high school players to get a solid feel of the next level of skill work and coaching at the collegiate level.
