ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico Swimming and Diving team set a program-high for honorees as the Mountain West announced the Mountain West All-Academic Awards recently. The team had a program record 23 student-athletes honored for academics for the spring semester. The previous records were during the 11-12 and 08-09 seasons with 22 and 20 honorees, respectively.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic semester/quarter at the member institution, have a cumulative grade-point-average of a 3.0 or better, and competed in half of the team’s varsity contests.
Nearly 100 percent of New Mexico’s Swimming and Diving program’s roster met the criteria with the highest GPA of the team at 4.26 earned by Carlie McGregor in her junior year. Amber Amr, Ashley Blanchette, Lucile Chevalier, Anna Lilliestrom, Allison Davis, Monica Dudley, Lindsey Englestead, Caitlin Gardiner, Megan Harper, Jorgi Hobson, Anna Lengyel, Kaela McKee, Taylor McGregor, Jessica Montoya, Samantha Moss, Lyndsay Stapleton, Lauren Tininenko, Kristin Walker, Sarah Weihe, Anastasia Welchert, Abigail Wheeler, and Heidi Zeiger were all among the long list of student-athletes who qualified for the award.
Baseball, men and women’s basketball, men and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men and women’s track and field sports were also recognized as Spring 2014 Mountain West Academic All-Conference honorees.
