ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- University of New Mexico juniors John Catlin and James Erkenbeck have been selected to the 2012 Division I PING All-West Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.
Catlin, a junior from Carmichael, Calif., had a stroke average of 71.83 over 42 rounds and won the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 30-31 in Tucson, Ariz. He was ranked as the No. 54 collegiate player in the country by Golfweek.com and No. 74 by golfstat.com.
Erkenbeck, a junior from San Diego, had a 71.90 stroke average over 42 rounds. He had three top-five finishes, including runner-up at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Erkenbeck achieved his best ranking of the year at the end of the season, finishing No. 59 on the Golfweek.com list and No. 80 by Golfstat.com.
The duo led the Lobos to a No. 16 national ranking at the end of the regular season, and the team captured a victory at the Lone Star Invitational on Oct. 16-18 in San Antonio, Texas.
UNM finished one stroke out of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The Lobos were sixth at the NCAA Athens Regional from May 17-19.
