    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico football team landed 11 student-athletes on the 2011 Phil Steele's College Football Preview preseason All-Mountain West Team announced today. All-America candidate and junior tight end Lucas Reed highlights the list with a first team honor. Senior linebacker Carmen Messina was recognized as a second team All-MWC selection, along with junior wide receiver Ty Kirk.

    Offensively, junior transfer Lamaar Thomas was a fourth team selection. Thomas, who sat out the 2010 season after transferring from Ohio State, has the speed and quickness to have an impact in 2011. Junior kick returner Emmanuel McPhearson also earned fourth team recognition.

    Other defensive notables were third team members Reggie Ellis at defensive tackle, freshman transfer and linebacker Javarie Johnson, senior safety Bubba Forrest and senior kicker James Aho. Junior defensive end Joe Harris was a fourth team honoree along with senior cornerback Anthony Hooks.

    Phil Steele's College Football Preview has been known as one of the nation's most informative preseason football magazine. The publication will hit newsstands on June 7.
