Lobo Faithful:

What an exciting weekend for University of New Mexico Lobo Soccer! With a very well-played victory Saturday versus Kentucky, Lobo Soccer wrapped up the Conference USA Regular Season Championship. With this important result, we get a first round bye in this week’s Conference Tournament. Our next match is in the Conference USA semi-finals on Friday, November 15th against the winner of Tulsa/South Carolina. We are playing some of our best soccer and everyone is excited to get back at it! We depart on Thursday for Charlotte, North Carolina.

LOBOS VS UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY, NOVEMBER 9TH, 5:00 PM, LOBO SOCCER COMPLEX

Our most complete match of the season on senior day! I can't say enough about our four seniors: Michael Kafari, Kyle Venter, Michael Calderon and Michael Lisch. They have been fantastic all season and have led by example! We were very excited and prepared for this crucial final regular season match. A win would wrap up the Conference Regular Season Title. We opened well and played the game in the Kentucky half. Excellent opening 45 minutes, but nothing to show for our play on the scoreboard. The second half picked up right where we left off, with the reward coming in the 61st minute. Calderon corner kick to Kyle Venter for a clinical finish off the head; 1-0 Lobos. 15 minutes later, great work on the right flank from James Rogers and a precision cross to Ben McKendry at the six and class finish with his "cabeza". 2-0 Lobos and that's how it wrapped up. Pretty convincing performance: 11-0 shots, 10-1 corners, 8 fouls, Lisch with "0" saves….great way to end the regular season and enter tournament play.

Recap & Highlights of the Kentucky Win

Lobo Alum, "Big Dev" Sandoval, had a great match last night for Real Salt Lake in the MLS Western Conference Championship. Devon got the start, had an excellent goal… 4-2 victory and RSL on their way to the title match with another good result in the away leg (Portland in two weeks):

Thanks for all your support and we hope to play a few more at home before it's all "said and done". Conference Tournament this weekend and the NCAA selection show on Monday, November 18th.

See you soon and GO LOBOS!
