Albuquerque, N.M. --- Five players from the New Mexico women’s soccer team were honored with selection to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for District VII.  Brooke Ellison, Liz Nare and Brianna Webster were all named to the First Team, while Cassie Ulrich and Dylann O’Connor were named to the Second Team.

The five players honored were the most by any one school in Division I this season.  Also, Brianna Webster’s 4.05 grade point average was the highest among any of the honorees, regardless of whether they were in Division I, II, III or NAIA.  Cassie Ulrich’s grade point average was the second-highest.

For the program, the five marks the most Academic All-District honorees in school history, and Ellison, Nare and Webster will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.  Nare is now a two-time First Teamers, while Ellison and Webster were both on the Second Team last season.

Over the last three years, the program has had 10 players honored in District VII (five this year, four last year and one in 2011).  The team is comprised of the top players combining academics and athletics excellence from Division I schools in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

That Nare, Ellison and Webster made the squad is fitting, as all three played club soccer together in California and all three came to New Mexico together.  Nare and Ellison were also high school teammates.  This past season, Webster played every single minute, one of only three field players in the Mountain West to do so, while Nare tied the UNM career record for games player and games started, and set the record for career minutes played.  Ellison this season moved into the top 10 on all three of those lists.

O’Connor and Ulrich are both sophomores.  O’Connor was tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 points, while Ulrich recorded nine shutouts and a 0.85 goals against average.  O’Connor, along with Nare and Webster, were named Second Team All-Mountain West.
