KANSAS CITY, Kan. – University of New Mexico defender Kyle Venter has been named a 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-American. Venter was selected to the NSCAA’s All-American second team. The award makes Venter the first player in New Mexico history to become a three-time All-American.
The 2013 All-America honor adds to the center back’s impressive collegiate résumé. The Aurora, Colorado native was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist this season after earning Conference USA Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards. The senior is one of only two Conference USA players named a 2013 All-American, joining Old Dominion’s Tim Hopkinson.
Venter and the rest of the Lobos ended the 2013 season in the NCAA College Cup in the UNM’s second-ever Final Four appearance.
Venter’s on-the-field accolades are rivaled by his academic awards. He’s taken home Academic All-America, All-District and All-Conference honors in his Lobo career.
The senior defender has been selected to attend the 2014 MLS Combine in Orlando a week before January’s MLS SuperDraft.
