ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer program continues to earn national recognition following the Lobos’ run to the 2013 College Cup. Seniors Michael Calderon (Third Team) and Kyle Venter (Second Team) have been named All-Americans by College Soccer News. It marks the second All-America honor for Venter this season after being named a NSCAA First Team All-American earlier this week.

Calderon and Venter were also NSCAA All-Region Team members this season as well as All-Conference USA First Teamers. Calderon, Venter and the rest of the Lobos ended the 2013 season in the NCAA College Cup in the UNM’s second-ever Final Four appearance.

The award makes Venter the first player in New Mexico history to become a three-time All-American. This All-America honor adds to the center back’s impressive collegiate résumé. The Aurora, Colorado native was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist this season after earning Conference USA Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards.  Venter also leaves the program as the all-time leader in career minutes played with 7,859 minutes logged as a Lobo.

Calderon picks up his first career All-America honor after garnering NSCAA All-Region honors earlier this week. The Costa Rican picked up National Team of the Week honors for three different weeks this season. He was also a member of the 2013 All-NCAA Tournament team. Calderon finished the season with six goals and five assists, which gives him ten goals and thirteen assists in his two-year Lobo career.

The duo will participate in the MLS Combine is January 10-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with the 2014 MLS SuperDraft taking place on Thursday, January 16th in Philadelphia.
