Post-Game Notes: (20/20) New Mexico 64, (#8/7) San Diego State 58

Streaks and trends

*New Mexico defeated #8/7 San Diego State 64-58 to become the first team in Mountain West history to win back-to-back-to-back Mountain West Tournament titles.

*New Mexico now has 14 wins away from The Pit, tying the school record for the most wins away from The Pit.

*New Mexico is now 23-2 when leading at the half.

*New Mexico has gone 27-4 in its last 31 games vs. MW teams, with the four losses by combined eight points, and all with a chance for UNM to take the lead in the final 30 seconds.

*New Mexico now has eight combined Mountain West regular season and tournament titles, equaling the total of San Diego State, tying the two teams for first.

*UNM has won nine straight Mountain West tournament games, a league record.

*UNM has won 10 of its last 11 games in the Thomas & Mack Center.

In-Game Notes

*The Lobos led at the break 27-22.  It was the 16th in the last 21 games that a team has fewer than 33 or more in the opening half against UNM.

*There were 12 lead changes and 10 ties.

*San Diego State used an 8-0 run starting at the 2:09 mark to take a 57-56 lead with 1:21 to go.

*UNM took the lead for good by breaking the press and getting a trhee-point play from tournament MVP Cameron Bairstow.

*UNM’s Hugh Greenwood, Kendall Williams, Cameron Bairstow and Alex Kirk never came out in the second half.

Head Coach Craig Neal        

*Improved to 27-6 in his career, and he is the winningest first year coach in school history.  Alford went 24-9 in 2007-08.

*He is one win away from moving into the top 10 in NCAA history for most wins ever by a first year head coach in Division I history.

Senior F Cameron Bairstow

*Was named the Mountain West Tournament MVP and also was named All-Tournament

*Scored 17 points, his 32nd double-figure scoring game of the season

*Now has 1,215 points and moved ahead of Mark Walters for 20th in school history on the career scoring list.

*Is now 5th on the single-season scoring list with 670 points, passing Kelvin Scarborough.

*Now has 629 rebounds, good for 13th place on the career rebounds list ahead of Hunter Greene.

*Eighth player in school history with 1,200 points and 600 rebounds.

*Now has made 215 free throws this season, second-most in school history.

*Now has attempted 291 free throws, second-most in school history.             

*Now tied for fifth on the career games played list with 133.

Junior C Alex Kirk                  

*Named All-Tournament

*Grabbed 11 rebounds for the second straight game and has 679 and remained in eighth on the career rebounding list.

*Is still sixth on the single-season blocked shots list with 85.

 Senior G Kendall Williams

*Is third with 136 career games played and will tie the record in the NCAA Tournament.

*Scored 16 points and now has 1,810 career points, the fifth Lobo in school history with 1,800 points.

*Has the most made free throws in school history with 555.

*Now has 725 career free throw attempts, moving into second ahead of Kenny Thomas.


Junior G Hugh Greenwood

*Had 12 points, just his second double-figure scoring game of the season.

*Added five assists, making UNM 12-0 when any player other than Kendall Williams gets five assists in a game.
