RENO, Nev. - Lisa Rodrigues tossed a one-hitter and the University of New Mexico’s offense scored a run in the seventh but it wasn’t enough as Nevada took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and scored an insurance run in the sixth to claim a 3-1 victory for the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at Hixson Park.

"Weplayed much tougher today," said head softball coach Erica Beach. "Lisa threw well but they capitalized on free runners we put on base. Our defense played especially well today which was really fun to watch."

The Wolf Pack scored two in the first inning off an illegal pitch and an RBI grounder to second. Rodrigues held of Nevada for four straight innings before the Wolf Pack scored an insurance run in the sixth.

The Lobos had chances to put runs on the board with runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings but only capitalized on their chance in the seventh, pushing across a run. With one out, Chelsea Anaya was hit by a pitch. She advanced to second one Shelbie Franc’s ball to third base but was bobbled for an error, making Franc safe at first. Naomi Tellez walked the bases loaded and Mariah Rimmer reached on a fielder’s choice to score Anaya.

Rodrigues’ one-hitter is her first of the season and she drops her record to 4-6. She allowed three runs, walked six and struck out two in six innings of work. Nevada’s Megan Dortch allowed one run off four hits while walking five and striking out four to collect the win.

Michala Erickson led the Lobo’s at the plate, tallying two of the Lobos’ four hits. She singled through the left side in the second and singled up the middle in the fourth. Tellez went 1-for-3 with a double in the first inning and Rimmer went 1-for-3 with a single through the right side that advanced Franc to third.

After the three-game series loss, the Lobos drop to 10-23 on the season and 1-5 in Mountain West action. Nevada improves to 21-13 overall and 3-3 in conference play. New Mexico will return home next weekend to play host for the three-game Fresno State series. First pitch will be Friday at 5 p.m.
