ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico will host the 21st annual New Mexico Women’s Football Clinic Driven by New Mexico Chevy Dealers on July 24th on Branch Field at University Stadium.
The purpose of the clinic is give women a first-hand look at the inner workings of the Lobo football program. The clinic also will provide attendees an opportunity to meet coach Davie, his staff and members of the Lobo football program.
“The Lobo Football Women’s Clinic has become a great tradition here at UNM for me and my staff,” Davie said. “We cherish the opportunity to give the women of New Mexico a glimpse of what Lobo football is all about.”
All participants will get dinner provided by Fuddruckers and beverages with the Lobos, participate in a Question & Answer Session, take a tour of the Lobo football facilities, learn on-field drills with instruction from the players and coaches, and receive a T-shirt for attending.
“There are a lot of women who are pretty savvy when it comes to football,” former Lobo player and current Lobo assistant coach Jason Lenzmeier says. “So it’s not like we’re trying to introduce them to football; it’s just taking them though a day in the life of a Lobo football player.”
Lenzmeier, who has participated in the clinics both as a player and a coach, said the enthusiasm the women bring sets the tone for the evening.
“This is always the camp I really look forward to because the women are so excited to be out there. They just want to go out and compete and have a good time. It is a good time; it’s unique and it’s fun.”
The cost of the event is $30, and Proceeds benefit the Send-A-Kid Program, which allows underprivileged youth to attend Lobo football games.
The event takes place from 5:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m. Check-in is at the Tow Diehm Athletic building. Athletic clothing and sneakers are recommended.
