ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team had eight student-athletes earn Mountain West academic honors this week as the conference announced all MW Academic All-Conference and MW Scholar-Athlete honorees.

Susan Baklini, Michaela Bezdickova, Rachana Bhat, Lizette Blankers, Dominique Dulski, Meredith Hopson, and Emily Olivier were all named to the Spring 2014 Academic All-Conference team. To be eligible for this award the student-athlete must have completed at least one academic semester/quarter at the member institution, have a cumulative grade-point-average, at the member institution, of 3.0 or better, and competed in 50 percent of the team’s varsity contests.

Not only did these Lobo athletes maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, but every UNM women’s tennis player named to the Academic All-Conference team finished the spring semester with a 3.49 GPA or above.

The MW also announced Mountain West Scholar-Athletes. Baklini, Bezdickova, Bhat, Blankers, Dulski, and Hopson also earned this award for their academic success and were joined by teammate Madison Porter. The honor recognizes student-athletes that completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the member institution, have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5 or better, and competed in at least one varsity contest in an MW-sponsored sport during the 2013-14 academic year.

This was the third Academic All-Conference and third MW Scholar-Athlete award of Bezdickova’s career. She graduated in May from the UNM Anderson School of Management.

The UNM women’s tennis team finished the semester with an impressive team GPA of 3.61.
