In Tulsa, Okla., University of New Mexico rising senior Gavin Green finished tied for 52nd in the prestigious and 11th annual Trans-Mississippi Championship, after the event was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.

The tournament consisted of 144 of the nation’s top amateurs in the country playing at Southern Hills Country Club. Severe thunderstorms, however, knocked out the final two rounds of play.

Green shot a 7-over 147 for the event’s first two rounds (75-72). He finished 12 strokes behind winner Will Zalatoris of Plano, Texas.

Green struggled on hole Nos. 1-9, in which he was 7 over in the two days combined. He was even-par on holes 10-18.

Fellow Lobo junior Joe Abella, senior Sean Romero and senior Sam Saunders also played in the event but were unable to make the cut. Each shot 9-over 149s during the first two rounds.

The event is a primer for Green and Saunders, who will join Lobo sophomore Andrej Bevins next week in Newton, Kan., for the U.S. Public Links Amateur Championship.

Bevins qualified for the event by winning a sectional qualifying tournament in Chico, Calif., on Tuesday, shooting a 9-under 133.
